The World’s Double Standard Against Israel
President George W. Bush has begun his pre-war appeal to the Arabs by pressing Israel to withdraw from Arab cities which the Palestinian Authority use to nurture terror, where the terrorists are incubated, hatched and sent on their deadly missions of homicide. I say this in spite of the friendly speeches emanating from Washington from both Bush and Israel’s Prime Minister Ariel (Arik) Sharon.
Israel has been doing her best to protect her embattled civilian population now under terrorist siege for more than two years. Israel could have safely bombed Ramallah, Schehem (Nablus), Tulkarem, Jenin, and Hebron from the air causing massive collateral civilian casualties, while targeting terrorists hiding among the population but, she did not. Instead, Israel has been as careful as possible in targeting key terrorists given that they knowingly use their own civilians (men, women and especially children) as human shields.
In all fairness, when America had to attack Taliban and Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan, there were considerable collateral, civilian casualties. There had no other choice — unless they went house-to-house, sustaining massive casualties in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda Muslim terrorists.
But, that is exactly what the Israelis have been doing for decades against unceasing Terrorism. Going house-to-house (with the exception of occasionally hitting a high profile terrorist from the air with missiles) has produced excessive Israeli casualties which could have been avoided. Was Israel accorded recognition by America or the Europeans for her tactics of restraint? Of course not.
So, let’s flip the double standard being used against Israel because we want to keep on good terms with oil-rich Arab nations — hostile thought they may be.
THE FLIP SIDE
Al Qaeda has promised a second wave of attacks in America. We already know, courtesy of the U.S. State Department, our cities and universities have been flooded with Muslims whose loyalty to Islam and Allah far exceed their loyalty to America as their host country. We know Attorney General John Ashcroft is frantically seeking those killer sleeper cells, well-hidden in the general Muslim population.
Assuming Al Qaeda and other connected Muslim sleeper agents carry out their threat and succeed in causing massive casualties across America, what will President Bush do? Will he follow the restraint he has demanded of Israel? I don’t think so. I think he will do exactly as the Israelis are doing. He will send troops into predominately Muslim areas in order to disrupt communications, freedom of movement and to catch the Sleeper Terrorists sheltered by the ordinary Muslim families.
Under the mandate of martial law, entire areas in cities where there is a preponderance of Muslims will be encircled. The entrenched radical Muslim Organizations like CAIR will complain, demanding the protection of civil rights used by Islamists to subvert most governments all over the world. House-to-house searches will be conducted for terrorists, bomb-making materials, lab equipment for chemicals, sniper rifles and safe houses. When there are outbreaks of small-pox, anthrax or radiation bombs which can close down Congress, Wall Street or Main Street, the restraint Bush demanded of Israel will be gone in a heartbeat.
All the rules of restraint and prohibitions thrust upon Israel will be brushed aside with the imposition of National Security and, perhaps, martial law. America will seek out Israel’s expertise to solve her terrorist problems in the vast, free U.S.A.
Perhaps, according to other nations, Israel as a small nation doesn’t deserve the right of National Security she has taken in the face of daily terror. Or, if she does, perhaps she can only have an empty or watered down version, satisfactory to whatever interests of other nations that they think come first. Isn’t that what the “Double Standard” is about?
Is it right for any powerful nation to compare her safety with a smaller nation? The answer is “yes” because nations have interests NOT friends. Therefore, the smaller nation has to look to herself for self-defense. She may have to bow to the dictates of her powerful friends but, there are times when she must respectfully decline and do whatever is necessary to stay alive and sovereign on her own land.
In the speeches flowing from Washington, Israel is supposed to live side-by-side in peace with the Arab Palestinians. Nice words but empty of any truth. Every Arab State, every radical Islamic Terrorist organization or faction have all proclaimed emphatically that, with the Terrorists of Islam, they will continue attacking the Jewish State until they win.
Is this the side-by-side “Peace” President Bush is referring to? Bush demands the transfer of tax dollars to be released to Yassir Arafat. Does anyone doubt that these fungible dollars will go Arafat’s Mafia of Terror, despite so-called American overseers?
Bush seems to be reluctant to face the facts of his own forthright statements of his War Against Global Terror. The facts are plain Mr. President; a war of cultures and civilizations is taking place. It’s Islam against Christians and Jews the world over. In every nation where Muslims achieve critical mass, they attack their host government and that includes America — especially America.
They will not be stopped by appeals to their patriotic duties because their loyalty is only to Allah and to Islam’s march toward a World Islamic Caliphate and Domination by Islam. Restraint is accepted and used as a tool to subvert nations who offered access.
Supposedly peaceful Muslims are merely useful protective human shields and become an organic part of radical Islamism — when called upon to do so. The Christian concept of offering both cheeks to be slapped will end up with radiation marks on their cheeks.
Israel, in deference to America and world opinion, has become itself slap-happy trying to appease the Arabs. It simply won’t work because the adversary finds happiness and honor in war. So, while the civilized world tries to develop cures for disease, our friendly adversaries are developing diseases themselves. That is a symbiotic relationship of sorts. So dear President Bush, you had better figure out who is the best friend and who is the enemy, if you are to win the Global War Against Terrorism.
