NYT Trashes Israel’s 60th Memorial & Birthday

Once again the New York Times, owned by the German Jewish Sulzbergers show their bias against the Jewish State of Israel. Wednesday, May 7, 2008was Israel’s Yom HaZikaron (Commemorating the deaths of 22,437 fallen soldiers and 1,634 men, women and children who were victims of Arab Muslim Terror – most of them, paradoxically, since the 1993 Oslo Accords). The NYT (and the International Herald Tribune) published an article by Ethan Bronner on that day – just before Israel’s 60th Birthday. Bronner’s theme was the “tragedy” that the Muslim Arabs who live in Israel did not feel welcome. Bronner didn’t mention that they had a higher standard of living, greater freedoms, superior education and far better health care than their compatriots in Arab Muslim countries.

Ethan Bronner neglected to inform the NYT readers that Jews who live(d) in Arab and/or Muslim countries during the 2,000 year Jewish Diaspora were always treated as “Dhimmis” (people who were not welcome and were forced to live lower than the Muslims).

Bronner also neglected to tell the readers that Arabs who live in Israel have full civil rights but not full civic responsibilities. Muslims are not required to serve in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) but, they can volunteer. There are twelve Arab Muslims in today’s Israeli Knesset (fifty-nine since Israel’s first Knesset); Muslim families receive full child allowances for their many children; Muslims receive full health care and education (including universities built for them); many Muslim Arabs living under the Palestinian Authority try to move into Israel for the better conditions and most Arab Christians have moved out of the Muslim controlled areas all together.

Bronner forgot to tell his readers that Muslim Arabs who live in Israel are rightfully treated with some suspicion, given the Terror they have implemented, fostered and teach in their schools. 1,634 Israelis have been murdered by Muslim Arab Terror, including suicide bombs in buses, restaurants, holiday bombings and scouting for Arafat’s Terrorists. Now Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades of Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement and Hamas which took over all of Gaza have launched thousands of Kassam Rockets, mortars, missiles into Israel. Add Iran’s proxy, Hezb’Allah (Hezbollah) in Lebanon who bombed Northern Israel for thirty-four days in July and August 2006 with Russian-made Katyusha Rockets – sent from Iran through Syria to Lebanon.

Not all Muslim Arabs are dangerous – probably, maybe 10% but, if you or yours get hit, that’s 100%. How can you tell the difference when an Arab Muslim gets on a bus or enters a store carrying a package? Americans find screening for terror weapons at airports a terrible nuisance. In Israel, everyone has their car searched on entering most buildings’ parking lots and each person is screened by a metal detector as well as a guard’s detection wand. It is accepted as necessary because it beats the alternatives -hands down.

Bronner ignores the equivalent of America’s Pearl Harbor in Israel on May 15, 1948. The difference was that, the Arab Muslims had been attacking Jews – especially Jewish farmers working their fields – before the U.N. Partition vote on November 29, 1947. The Muslims swore they would kill all the Jews of Israel. They did their best to keep their vow. On May 14, 1948 the Jews finally declared their own State of Israel and became “Israelis.” On the next day, seven neighboring Arab Muslim armies: Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen invaded Israel.1

They vowed to slaughter all the Jews and dance in their blood. The Muslims lost and the Jews won, but 6,000 Israeli Jews were killed – one percent of Israel’s total Jewish population of 600,000 – most of whom were survivors from the Nazi Holocaust and Jews from Arab countries who were evicted with all their worldly goods stolen.

The Muslim Arabs still teach their children it is their destiny to hate and kill Jews in order to conquer Israel, even if they must become suicide bombers to do so. This is cruel child abuse of their own children.

The Arab Muslims have lost the six major attacks they launched against the Jewish State. But, all offers of peace were rejected by the Muslims’ Ayatollahs, saying that all the ground where Muslims had ever walked was holy to Islamists and had to be reclaimed with blood (not with negotiations and peace agreements). They claim that Jews have no rights in Muslim Arab lands.

Bronner disregarded the 850,000 Jews who had lived in Muslim Arab countries for thousands of years, before the Muslims confiscated their personal and communal property and ejected them. 700,000 settled in Israel, which absorbed them despite being a new State with no infrastructure and scant financial resources.

Muslim Arabs are treated in Israel’s hospitals with as much care as are Jews. Many Muslim Arab doctors and nurses work in these hospitals – under equal terms with Jewish doctors and nurses. The waiting rooms are loaded with Muslim Arab woman, waiting to be treated by Jewish doctors whom they may hate but believe they will get superior care from them. They often come from those areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority in Judea, Samaria and from Gaza which is now controlled by Hamas. Too often, the resident Terrorists use the Red Crescent ambulances to transport terrorists and explosives but, they complain to the New York Times that road blocks and checkpoints (checking for such contraband) delay them.

The Bronner article weeps and bleeds for Arabs who, in concert with Iran, Syria, Libya and the Palestinian Muslims of different groups say they will yet push the Jews out of “their” Land. They conveniently forgot that Jews had settled the Land of Eretz Yisrael over 3,000 years before Islam and before the Muslims came to raid, loot and slaughter.

Those Arab Muslims who in-migrated for jobs and better health care only became “Palestinians” when Egyptian born Yassir Arafat adopted that identity in 1964.  Til then the Jews were called “Palestinians”.

Not so strangely, the surrounding Muslim Arab nations consider the Palestinians to be a dangerous people who, although co-religionists, they refuse to accept them as citizens and keep them bottled up in so-called refugee camps where they receive the U.N. funding for food, schools, etc. Their “Refugee” I.D. cards are used even after they die, so the numbers keep increasing beyond reality.

Bronner forgot that Palestinians working in oil or high tech jobs in Kuwait, on orders of Yassir Arafat, worked with Saddam Hussein to find $70 Billion in liquid assets like gold and jewels, to loot the homes of the most important Kuwaiti leaders, etc., when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Later Kuwait and Saudi Arabia kicked out a total of 750,000 Muslim Palestinians as too dangerous to their countries and summarily ejected them into Jordan.

Bronner modifies and softens his language about Arab Muslim attacks and the subsequent loss of land and villages is somehow “unfair;” these attacking Muslim Arabs are now to be pitied because they are self-made refugees. He describes their homes and villages as “refugee camps” when, in truth, they may be slums. However, I invite you to drive through the Arab villages and see the stunning mansions many of them have built for themselves and their families – and are still building.

Bronner does include one small balancing paragraph: “Land is presence,” remarked Clinton Bailey, an Israeli scholar who has focused on the Bedouin culture. “If you want to be present here, you have to have land. The country is not that big [300 by 50 miles – about the size of Delaware]. What you cede to Arabs can no longer be used for Jews who may still want to come.”

Clearly, the German Jewish Sulzberger family who own the New York Times, are what is known in the Jewish community as self-hating Jews. Regrettably, we have an abundance of these self-hating lost souls. They can be found in the media, academia, and politics doing their best to apologize for being Jews.

They are also the self-hating Jewish Leftists who support Ehud Olmert, because he helped give away the bountiful twenty-one Jewish communities in Gush Katif/Gaza. They support the Oslo Accords which subverted the Jewish State while supporting Arab Terrorists. Their goals, conscious or subliminal, are to de-Judaize the Jewish State. It won’t work because G-d wants Israel to be Jewish. He wants Israel to be populated by Jews who carry His Message as contained in His Laws.

That is what G-d wants.

It is not what the New York Times and their fellow travelers want.

We shall see who prevails.

BIOGRAPHY OF EMANUEL A. WINSTON

by GAIL WINSTON

Manny Winston, my late husband, flew from Chicago to Israel to volunteer during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. He arrived with US secretary of state Henry Kissinger’s first ceasefire on October 21; I followed on October 30th.

Manny was picking grapefruit at Kibbutz Dalia when his friend, the artists, Sol Baskin called with a permit to enter the war zone. They drove to meet Gen. Ariel “Arik” Sharon at the Suez Canal. “Shalom” Baskin was part of the Mahal volunteers from America to the IDF, and a commissioned officer in Mahal. He was Arik’s commanding officer during the 1948 War of Independence, and they remained friends.

Manny brought his two Leica cameras and photographed an outstanding photo exposé on October 29 and 30. He saw and smelled the “killing fields” He met with Sharon, the young soldiers who had survived the destroyed tanks and he saw how the blown tank turret, flipped upside down destroyed the lives of those brave souls inside.

Manny did see these effects and, because he was a true Renaissance man, a graphic thinker who was a painter, sculptor and political analyst, he envisioned a solution to the weak point of the tank. He described a technique to conquer that weakness to Sharon, who sent him to Maj.-Gen. Israel Tal, the developer of the famed Merkava tank.

Manny’s “leap of imagination” created what became “Blazer” or “Reactive” Armor. He designed rectangles of hollow metal boxes with an explosive charge inside. These ‘so-called’ “skirts” were placed around the neck of the tank turret so that when hit, the explosive charge therein would push the incoming ballistic missile out, thereby saving the tank and its crew. This was compatible with the primary goal of Gen. Tal’s Merkava tanks: Defense of the Tank Crew.

That, along with speed, maneuverability, effective shooting and protection against damaging desert sand, were what made the Merkava “The Tank a Jewish Mother Would Love,” as Manny called it.

He also designed a better bridge for crossing the Canal – easier to carry and assemble, and less susceptible to the huge holes the tanks had already created on the day’s existing bridge.

Manny continued to submit creative concepts for defense and offense to Israel’s military industries – for which he received his Israeli citizenship and security clearance. Many of his concepts and ideas were adopted throughout the years. He never asked for credit or remuneration but even today, I see his concepts being used, either in action or in military articles. Someday I hope to publish the “WINSTON DEFENSE DESIGNS,” either online or in a book – a very big book, with his original drawings.

The Yom Kippur War was a seminal turning point in Israel’s history. We did win. It was a miracle, given the forces mounted against us, in number and backed up the Soviet Union.

We have 40 mounted color photographs by Emanuel A. Winston, ready to show at a traveling or permanent exhibition, which will enhance our appreciation of what our men and generals went through and achieved.

The Yom Kippur War was also a seminal turning point in the lives of the Winston family. It was our second trip to Israel. We had tried to make Aliyah in 1962 but didn’t succeed. I made Aliyah on November 7, 1979. Manny died on June 12, 2012, and is now buried on the Mount of Olives.

I sold the home he built in Highland Park, Illinois, in August 2012, and brought his manuscripts and published papers, to the home I built in Israel in 1992. Two of our sons and their families also live in the Jewish state.

My heartfelt message for you, the reader, is to invite all my friends, family and Internet friends to come to Israel. This is where a Jew can be truly Jewish.
